Study Construction at NZMA

If you are 16 – 19 years old and want to be part of the building boom, this FREE course is the perfect starting point. You won’t be stuck in a classroom all day – you’ll be learning loads of hands-on skills and working on practical projects in our Auckland Trades Campus. We’ll give you a taste of the different roles within the construction and trades industry, so you can figure out which path you want to go down. Become a builder? A plumber? A sparky? We have lots of options for further study. Plus we’ll teach you the foundation skills you need to land an entry-level job in this booming sector.

Course content includes:

  • Building, construction and allied trades (including working drawings, construction materials and electrotechnology work)
  • Painting and plastering
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical engineering
  • Health and safety (BCATS environment, electrical safety and safe working practices)
  • Self-management

What qualifications will I gain?

  • NCEA (Level 2) with a Vocational Pathway in Construction and Infrastructure

Course Costs

This is part of the Government-led Youth Guarantee programme so it’s completely FREE if you meet the course entry requirements.

Entry Requirements

  • Free for 16 - 19 year olds
  • Not be enrolled in a secondary school, and either:
  • 16 to 19 years of age at the time he or she commences the programme, or 15 years of age at the time he or she commenced the programme and have an early leaving exemption from his or her school
  • Applicants without formal qualifications must meet the minimum requirements of the NZMA placement assessment
  • Enrolment is subject to an interview process
