Our hands-on 35-week programme sets you up to enter the electrical industry as an entry-level employee. You could land a job as Electricity Supply Electrical Apprentice or an Industrial Electrical Apprentice or pathway into further study and become a qualified electrician.
The course is pre-entry foundation knowledge of electrical engineering and is suitable for those who wish to enter the industry and who do not yet have electrical apprenticeship agreement.
You’ll get to wire a sleepout and carry out a limited range of prescribed electrical work safely and ethically under general supervision of a licensed and registered electrician.
This course is a mix of campus-based study and online learning (on-site hours vary from 12 hours per week, online 8 hours per week, and 14 hours of self-directed learning in your own time).
You will learn:
Basic electrical theory, concepts and trade practice.
Workplace safety.
Legislation, codes of practice and standards.
Knowledge of NZ electricity supply.
Basic practical skills required by electricians.
Drawing and interpreting electrical diagrams.
Knowledge of electric motors.
