Our hands-on 35-week programme sets you up to enter the electrical industry as an entry-level employee. You could land a job as Electricity Supply Electrical Apprentice or an Industrial Electrical Apprentice or pathway into further study and become a qualified electrician.
The course is pre-entry foundation knowledge of electrical engineering and is suitable for those who wish to enter the industry and who do not yet have electrical apprenticeship agreement.
You’ll get to wire a sleepout, work on a two bedroom house, can carry out a limited range of prescribed electrical work safely and ethically under general supervision of a licensed and registered electrician.
This course is a mix of campus-based study and online learning (on-site hours vary from 12 hours per week, online 8 hours per week, and 14 hours of self-directed learning in your own time).

Legislation, codes of practice and standards
Knowledge of NZ electricity supply
