The Executive Team and Board are responsible for the governance of the organisation.
The Board meets monthly to:
The Senior Management Team (comprised of the Chief Executive and Directors) communicates daily, and takes care of the on-going operations of the business.
NZMA operates under the strict NZQA student fee protection policy as required by the New Zealand Government. Student fees are protected in the unlikely event that NZMA is unable to deliver a student’s tuition.
NZMA has an independent Academic Advisory Board, which provides guidance in terms of programme development, delivery and moderation so that:
• Our students and other stakeholders can be confident that NZMA delivers its courses with the appropriate academic rigour and commitment to quality.
• Other partners, whose products we are delivering, can be confident that NZMA delivers their products with the appropriate academic rigour.
• Other organisations (for example universities and other tertiary institutions both in New Zealand and internationally) can confidently grant our graduates articulated pathways/advanced standing into their programmes.
The Board is chaired by Professor Philip Sallis, who has reduced his full-time role at Auckland University where he has been Deputy Vice Chancellor since 1999. For 13 years prior, he was the Foundational Professor of Information Science at The University of Otago. Prior to that he also held senior academic positions in Australia and the United Kingdom.
Professor Sallis’ academic background is in Mathematics and Computer Science with degrees also in History and Theology. He holds a PhD from The University of London (TCU) in Communication and Information Transfer Systems Theory. He is widely published in this area and has Fellowships from the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the UK Simulation Society, the International Association of Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG) and the New Zealand Institute of IT Professionals.
Professor Sallis has broad experience and expertise in tertiary education across four universities with appointments at all levels of the teaching, research and management spectrum. He has participated internationally in curriculum and research development design and implementation, industry and commercial enterprise collaboration, and professional programme accreditation. He continues to be an active researcher, writer and reviewer of publications, institutional processes and staff development procedures.
Professor Sallis brings wide international expertise across the tertiary sector, which is combined with experience in both the polytechnic and university contexts, together with a background of international programme articulations and research project management, practical industry-education collaborations and previously-held professional and government appointments.
At NZMA we are committed to offering quality learning. We are ranked as a Category 1 provider on NZQA’s EER rating which is the best rating possible for providers.
This means that we are on the highest tier of private tertiary educators and operate under a four year NZQA External Evaluation and Review (EER) cycle. NZMA’s most recent EER was in 2013, where we retained our Category 1 status.
