Campus Community Rallies to Raise Over $6K for Starship - With $10K Goal in Sight

Success Stories
HERO-BREAD

At the start of the year, tutors and students at our NZMA Auckland Central campus came together with a shared purpose: to support Starship Foundation and raise $10,000 over the course of 2026.

Just a few months in, they’re already well on their way with an impressive $6,332 raised so far.

The initiative kicked off with a major personal challenge, NZMA’s Iron Man (and campus manager!) Nigel completed the Ironman in Taupō, raising over $3,000 alone. From there, the momentum has continued to build through a range of student-led activities that tie directly into their learning and assessments.

Students across programmes have contributed in creative and meaningful ways:

  • Bakery students hosted bread and hot cross bun sales, raising over $1,200

  • Health and Wellbeing students organised a raffle, securing prizes from local businesses

  • A student-led Easter egg raffle added to the fundraising efforts on campus

  • Level 5 Cookery students are preparing a five-course fundraising dinner on 23 April, alongside a prize auction!

  • Individual students are also contributing through personal challenges, including walking initiatives

  • Later in the year, a group will take on the Auckland Marathon

What makes this initiative particularly special is how closely it aligns with student learning. Every activity is designed to complement assessments, develop real-world skills, and encourage collaboration - all while making a meaningful impact in the community.

With more events still to come, the campus is well on track to reach - and potentially exceed - their $10,000 goal for Starship.
