Study Plumbing and Gasfitting at NZMA

Course content includes:
- Health and safety in the workplace, including first aid and emergency procedures
- Working on plans and specifications; meeting regulations and codes of practice
- Practical skills and theory application for water systems, sheet metal and roofing materials, sanitation, cold and hot water supply, soldering, welding and brazing
- Installation of pipes and fittings for water supply, gas and other heating
- Theory and principles of gas combustion to domestic installations
- Integrating plumbing and gasfitting services into a building structure to meet customer requirements
Parts of this programme (unit standards 23229; 15757; 17599; 18426) are delivered under subcontracted agreement.
What qualifications will I gain?
- New Zealand Certificate in Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainlaying (Pre-apprenticeship) (Level 3)

Māori and Pasifika Trades Training (MPTT)
This course is also part of the Māori and Pasifika Trades Training (MPTT) programme. If you’re Māori or Pasifika and aged 16-40, you might be able to get a scholarship to pay your course fees. You’ll also get one-on-one career coaching, help finding work, and other learner support. You can enroll in the MPTT programme once you’ve gotten into your course, so ask NZMA about how to apply.

Entry Requirements
- Hold NCEA Level 1 in Maths, English, or equivalent, or have completed the Vocational Pathway in Construction and Infrastructure (Level 2) or equivalent.
- Meet the minimum requirements of the NZMA Entry Assessment
- Have sufficient competence in the English language to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English.
- Must be physically able to complete the practical aspects of the programme by being able to work effectively, efficiently and safely in a simulated work environment which may involve working safely at heights and in confined spaces.
