If you’re passionate about helping people in your community get well, our combined programme will give you the tools you need to be successful in patient centered pharmacy care. You can make a real difference in helping patients’ health and wellbeing, whilst building your career in pharmacy.

The course starts with an introduction to pharmacy retail operations, where you will learn everything you need to know about professional conduct, customer service and how to communicate to your patients while providing accurate health advice to patients and your community.

You will then progress to the dispensary side of the pharmacy where you will learn about pharmacy law and legislation, dispensary processes, anatomy and physiology, how to recognise how different body systems work and their disorders, routes of administration and formulation of medicines.

You’ll gain hands on experience in a fun, practical learning environment, giving you the skills and knowledge required to deliver accurate health advice to customers and your community as a fully qualified Level 5 Pharmacy Technician.

You'll also gain real world industry experience and complete 530 hours at a pharmacy provider as part of your training.

Qualifications which this programme leads to

  • NZ Certificate in Pharmacy (Introduction to Pharmacy Practice) (Level 3)

  • NZ Certificate in Pharmacy (Pharmacy Technician - Core) (Level 4)

  • NZ Certificate in Pharmacy (Pharmacy Technician - Advanced) (Level 5)

Note that learners must complete all levels before being awarded any of the above qualifications.

Course start dates

  • NCEA Level 2 (or equivalent high school finishing certificate) or be able to demonstrate equivalent skills and knowledge.

  • International applicants must be 18 years of age or older; An academic or General IELTS score of 6 is required with no band score lower than 5.5. IELTS 6.5 is highly recommended to be successful in the programme due to the high level of technical content in the programme; other English Tests / evidence may be approved as advised by NZQA.

  • Have an acceptable New Zealand Police vet prior to the beginning of practical experience.

  • International students must have travel and medical insurance and a valid visa.

  • International students and Chemist Warehouse: Conditions apply around work visa restrictions.

  • Applicants may be required to attend an interview.
