STUDYING: Diploma in Professional Cookery (Level 5)
BACKGROUND: “Before I enrolled at NZMA I was living in Australia doing hairdressing on the Gold Coast for a year. I was also writing books – I have two published already and one due out soon!”
REASONS FOR CHOOSING NZMA: “I’ve always loved cooking and I cook for my family all the time. Friends and family kept encouraging me to do something with my passion, so when I heard about NZMA’s cookery courses, I decided to go for it.”
HIGHLIGHTS OF NZMA: “I am loving it so much! As well as the health and safety side of it, it has been great to learn the backgrounds and secrets to delicious recipes. I’ve learnt how to cut different shapes and sizes like Julienne vegetables which are used for garnishes, and I’ve also been taught a lot of new cooking techniques. As well as all that, I love my classmates and I have the greatest cookery tutor!

EMPLOYMENT: “I am currently working as a chef at The Coffee Club and also Suite Steward at Eden Park. I love both these jobs!

I got the job at Eden Park first, just a couple of weeks into my course. Now, two months later, I have a job as a chef as well!"
FUTURE GOALS: “I should graduate with my diploma at the end of 2014. My plan after that is to get a job as head chef in a fancy restaurant on a cruise ship! I know that NZMA will help me work towards my goal for the future.”
