Press Release - New Pathway to Waikato University For Business Students

Thursday 9 September

Business students wanting a stepping stone to university are well catered for at NZMA thanks to a new partnership with the University of Waikato – the country’s top research-led business school.

All international students who successfully graduate from one of NZMA’s new business diplomas are now guaranteed direct entry into any bachelor degree offered by Waikato University’s Management School.  Better still, depending on their grades, and which business diploma they complete (Level 5 or Level 6), students will be eligible to apply for between 30 and 80 points of credit towards their degree programme.

NZMA Director of New Business and Product Development, Mark Worsop, says the new pathway provides enormous benefits for those looking to study business.

“It will be really valuable for students who may lack the confidence to enrol directly in a New Zealand university, or who perhaps do not meet the academic entry criteria for a degree programme,” he says.

“These students can now come to NZMA, where they will enjoy smaller classes, one-on-one support, high levels of pastoral care, English language support and a competency-based assessment environment.  This will significantly increase their chances of success.”

In addition, NZMA’s Redfish Recruitment Specialists will support students in finding relevant employment while they study.

“This new agreement provides certainty to students.  If they wish to continue their studies at degree level, then this is a guaranteed pathway for them.”

Earlier this year NZMA also signed a collaborative partnership with Manukau Institute of Technology, enabling international students who graduate from NZMA’s Level 6 business diploma to staircase straight into the second year of MIT’s Bachelor of Business Programme.

The agreements mark the first two New Zealand pathways for graduates of NZMA’s recently launched Edexcel business qualifications.  Further partnerships look set to follow.
