24 June 2019 – After launching the new NZMA Waikato campus in Hamilton earlier in the year, NZMA are supporting local sporting organisation Melville Rugby and Sports club.
NZMA Chief Executive, Mark Worsop said, “Many of our students enjoy playing sport in their community, and Melville is a local, family orientated sports club, that aligns with our values as an organisation. By supporting Melville we are able to give back to the local netball and ruby teams, plus provide NZMA students with invaluable work experience”.
At home games, NZMA hospitality students will have the opportunity to put their course training into practice, by gaining work experience in Melville Club’s food and beverage facilities, every Saturday night. This is invaluable hands-on experience which helps generate student confidence in the workplace.
Melville has served the local community for 60 years, having been established in 1959. They have around 300 members, and field multiple teams in the Waikato Senior and Junior rugby competitions and the Hamilton City Netball competition. Proudly wearing the green and red jerseys, the teams are well respected on the field.
The Club is the current Waikato Rugby Union “Club of the Year”, and holder of the Senior Women’s and under 85 Championships for 2018. Competition is vigorous to defend these titles.
In addition, Melville Netball was formed in 2002 and has competed competitively in premier and social grades ever since. It is a family orientated club, which currently competes in the Premier Grade as well as two very competitive NZMA Melville MOG’s (Melville Old Girls) teams.
