Thursday 28 March

27 March 2018 – NZMA has further strengthened their partnership with the International Management Institute (IMI) of Switzerland, with the announcement that NZMA cookery graduates are now able to pathway to an IMI National Diploma and/or the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in International Culinary Arts.

Located in Switzerland, and renowned worldwide as the home of hospitality and cookery related training, IMI is a drawcard for students wishing to cement their place in hospitality or culinary arts. IMI also have impressive industry partnerships for work experience and internships around the world, including the Ritz-Carlton, Marriot, Fairmont, Intercontinental, Four Seasons, and Disney – just to name a few.

NZMA Group CEO, Mark Worsop, said “At NZMA we want to create as many opportunities for our students and graduates as we can, both within New Zealand and internationally. IMI is an internationally recognised hospitality school which is reflected in the quality of their industry partners and accreditations, so we are excited to extend our partnership to include our culinary arts graduates.”

Recently NZMA sent three students to Switzerland to participate in IMI’s Student Ambassador programme where they learnt about career options open to them.

YoungChan Chai (South Korea), Jiyoung An (South Korea) and Marion Josef Apin (Philippines) have all undertaken the Professional Cookery Level 5 programme at NZMA, and were selected by NZMA to consider what their career paths could be.

NZMA student ambassador Jiyoung An said of the experience, “I’ve made new friends from all over the world as there were fifteen student ambassadors in total from Canada, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Serbia and Korea. We all had different stories, but our common dream is our passion for cooking. So there was a lot of positive energy all around the room”.

Jiyoung added, “It might sound strange, but through this experience I have realised how much I love NZMA in Auckland, my friends and tutors, and New Zealand. This trip has made me realise how much I appreciate what I have now too!”

Student Ambassador YoungChan Chai has a new goal in life now. “I’m really keen to study in Europe, especially at IMI in the future, to push me on my path of creativity. I have very high expectations of myself, and I really want to reach the top in cookery – I am aiming to work in a three star Michelin restaurant at least once in my life. So this is a new goal now!”

NZMA is able to open new pathways for students through their global networks, and the benefits are vast.
