Sylvia Park Cookery Students Make Debut at Chocolate and Coffee Show

The international culinary skills of a group of NZMA Sylvia Park students will be showcased to thousands of visitors at next weekend’s Chocolate and Coffee Show.

The students, who are all studying cookery at NZMA and who hail from six different countries, will be running their own pop-up restaurant throughout the two day event, treating members of the public to dazzling dishes from around the globe, with six different cuisines to choose from including Mexican, Thai, South African and Maori.
 
This is the first time a cookery school has operated a pop-up restaurant at the show, and according to Head of Culinary Arts at NZMA, Jasbir Kaur, it will be a definite highlight.
 
“It’s new and it’s exciting,” said Jasbir.
 
“Twenty five of our top international and domestic students will be sharing their favourite dishes from home. Pop-up restaurants are really taking off right now and this is a great opportunity for Aucklanders to sample traditional fare from different countries. It also gives our students a platform to practice their skills out in the real world.”
 
The Chocolate and Coffee Show will be held at The Cloud on September 3 and 4 and is the ultimate event for lovers of caffeine and cocoa. Show-goers can sample wares from boutique chocolatiers and artisan coffee roasters and sit in on kitchen demonstrations from culinary heroes such as Brett McGregor, Nadia Lim - and award-winning pastry chef, food sculptor and NZMA patisserie tutor Ganesh Khedekar.
