NZMA hospitality graduates looking to gain a degree can now fast-track their studies thanks to a new articulation agreement with the Auckland University of Technology, AUT.
Students who complete NZMA’s two-year Diploma in Applied Hospitality Management can shave 18 months –180 credits – off their Bachelor of International Hospitality Management at the Auckland-based university. That means they’ll gain their degree in just a year and a half and get onto the hospitality career ladder quicker.
Divisional General Manager for the ACG Tertiary & Careers Group, Mark Worsop, says the new agreement opens up exciting possibilities for students.
“Students can now complete an NZMA Diploma, which includes a 600 hour paid internship, and gain an AUT University degree in a total of three and a half years. The options and opportunities this provides students with are unique and very exciting.
“The relationship with AUT University is an extremely important one for NZMA, because we share a similar philosophy around the importance of employment and work readiness, and we were very pleased to see recognition of their performance having been ranked 12th in the world for ‘international outlook’ in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.”
Over the years NZMA has offered a number of pathway opportunities to degree-level studies at AUT, both for its business and hospitality students. However according to Mark, the latest agreement is the best offering yet.
“This is a significant improvement on the 135 credits previously offered and is a reflection of not only the quality of NZMA’s hospitality training, but also its alignment to university curriculum.”
AUT has been described as the ‘University for the changing world’ and is New Zealand’s newest university. Home to around 26000 students, including 7000 international-born students, it offers contemporary programmes for those seeking a modern career.
