A new partnership with international hotel chain Academie Accor could give NZMA graduates the chance to fast-track their careers.
The hotel group is looking to recruit NZMA hospitality diploma graduates, and place them onto their 18-month Graduate Management Trainee Programme (GMT). After successfully completing the training, graduates will be guaranteed a supervisory role in the department in which they show the most promise. With hotel brands including Pullman, Sofitel, Sebel, Ibis, Mercure, Grand Mercure, Quay West and Novotel, the career opportunities within the Accor group are staggering.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for our diploma graduates,” said NZMA Careers Manager Gareth Brown.
“Accor’s GMT programme is awesome and seen as one of the best in the industry.”
During the 18 months interns will gain an in-depth understanding of how the business works inside and out, both from the operational and the commercial sides. Training will include everything from managing customer relationships to learning about wine matching, and interns will be involved with a number of committees and groups. Individual progress will be regularly reviewed and training individually tailored to ensure interns achieve their goals. The graduate programme is made up of two placements that include practical experience and projects. Those chosen may be placed in any number of Accor properties around New Zealand.
Applications close on September 5, and Gareth is expecting plenty of interest from students.
“For those who are passionate about forging a career in the hotel sector this really is a not-to-be-missed opportunity.”
