Study Early Childhood Education at NZMA

This programme will develop your knowledge and skills as an educator, enabling you to provide and support the education and care of infants, toddlers, and young children. The programme includes a practicum in an Early Childhood Centre which is an integral part of the course.

Course content includes:

  • Context of Early Childhood Education in Aotearoa
  • Communities in Aotearoa New Zealand and Maori as Tangata Whenua
  • The early childhood curriculum Te Whariki applied to assessment for learning and teaching practice in an early childhood setting
  • Professional practice informed by learning and development theories, government strategies and policy
  • Human development and learning
  • Health and safety policies and procedures in practice; plans and evaluation

What qualifications will I gain?

  • New Zealand Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 5)

International Students

Tuition Fees: NZD$20,950

Course Fee: NZD$1,500

The New Zealand Government has imposed an international student levy on tuition and course related fees. From 1 January 2019 the levy will be 0.89% of the compulsory tuition fees.

Course Information

On completion of the Diploma in Early Childhood Education – Level 5, you will be able to pathway into higher level study at other New Zealand tertiary providers. If you complete a bachelors course in earlychild this will allow you to work within this industry.

Entry Requirements

  • Domestic students must be 18 years of age or older at the time the programme commences. International students need to be 18 years of age or older
  • Demonstrate the ability to complete the academic requirements of the programme, for example, having achieved the New Zealand Certificate in Early Education and Care (Level 4), or NCEA (Level 3), or equivalent.
  • Have an acceptable New Zealand Police Vet before entry to the programme. If the programme begins before the Vet report has been received from the New Zealand Police, students may begin the programme but may not attend any practical experience at a ECE Service Provider until an acceptable report has been received.
  • If english is not your first language, you will need to have achieved an IELTS Level 6.0 (Academic) with no sub-score less than 5.5, or equivalent.
  • International students must have travel and medical insurance and a valid visa.
