Study Early Childhood Education at NZMA

This programme will develop your knowledge and skills as an educator, enabling you to provide and support the education and care of infants, toddlers, and young children. The programme includes a practicum in an Early Childhood Centre which is an integral part of the course.

Course content includes:

  • Communities in Aotearoa New Zealand, and Maori as tangata whenua
  • The early childhood curriculum Te Whariki applied to assessment for learning and teaching practice in an early childhood centre
  • Practice informed by learning and development theories, government strategies and policy
  • Health and safety policies and procedures in practice; plans and evaluation

  • New Zealand Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 5)

International Students

Tuition Fees: NZD$18,000

Course Fee: NZD$1,500

The New Zealand Government has imposed an international student levy on tuition and course related fees. From 1 January 2019 the levy will be 0.89% of the compulsory tuition fees.

Course Information

On completion of the Diploma in Early Childhood Education – Level 5, you will be able to pathway into higher level study at other New Zealand tertiary providers. If you complete a bachelors course in earlychild this will allow you to work within this industry.

Entry Requirements

  • Be 17 years old
  • Must demonstrate desire to work in an ECE setting
  • Ability to complete the academic requirements of the programme
  • Have achieved an New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 4), or NCEA (Level 3), or equivalent
  • Have acceptable safety checks prior to the beginning of practical experience
  • Be responsible, reliable and in good health
  • If English is second language, must have an IELTS Level of 5.5 with no sub-score less than 5.0, OR equivalent
  • International students must have travel and medical insurance and a valid visa
