Danielle Czepanski | Success Story NZMA

I’ve always had a passion for working with children

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I was home-schooled my entire life, right up until when I started NZMA at the age of 16. I’ve been at NZMA for the past 18 months – I started off doing Level 3 and have just graduated with my Diploma.

How did you enjoy studying at NZMA?
I’ve always had a passion for working with children, and studying Level 3 was a fantastic opportunity for me to test the waters and be sure that this was the right career path for me. And it definitely is! I could not have asked to start my ECE studies on a more positive note – in fact my personal philosophy today is very much influenced by the readings my tutor introduced me to, and the class discussions we had in Level 3.
Level 5 opened my eyes to Pasifika influences in Early Childhood Education. As someone who is not part of a Pasifika culture, I found that I gained an entirely new perspective on how families, culture and Early Childhood Education are all intertwined to create a positive learning environment in which children thrive. I’m now aware of strategies that I can use to utilize my knowledge of Te Whariki and create an Early Childhood environment that is supportive of all cultures.

Where to from here?
I have come out the other end of my NZMA studies with NCEA Level 1, 2, and 3; a Certificate in Early Childhood Education (Level 3) ; and a Level 5 Diploma in Early Childhood Education. I now intend to continue studying towards my Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and become an educator in an ECE service. I am very thankful for the academic and practical experience I’ve gained through studying ECE from a young age.
